The idea of women is politics is hardly new. With Hillary Clinton’s recent resignation from the Presidential race, however, there has been much talk about whether her run was a feat for women or, ultimately, a defeat. 

Political differences aside, Michele Rajsic, Chair of the Philadelphia Federation of Young Republicans—a branch of the oldest political youth organization in the U.S—says it is great to see both an African American and a woman in the Presidential race. Unfortunately, women still have a ways to go. Rajsic believes the discussion of Hillary’s wardrobe or how tired she looks are all obstacles that need to be overcome.

Rajsic, herself, is a testament to the progress women have made in politics. And, although she believes it sounds like a cliche, Rajsic is truly an embodiment of the American dream.

Rajsic is a first-generation American. She was born of two Yugoslavian immigrants, and remembers her parents studying for citizenship exams as a child.
