Thai Cotton
Muay Boran is the other name of the ancient Thai boxing. It is a traditional form of Muay Thai which is still taught and practiced in Thailand. Muay Boran is still practiced and taught in order to preserve the techniques of boxing history of Muay Thai, before the introduction of rules formalized and the introduction of gloves in the 1930s. Muay Boran is the ancestor of modern Muay Thai Boxing. Most of the facts of Muay Boran have been extinct now, many original documents from Thailand on this fascinating subject, were destroyed in the bag of Ayuddhaya in 1767 and others lost in the mists of time. The late Arjarn Samai Messamarn Institute Buddhai swans in Thailand was able to make a study of the Thai empty hand system using the meager resources available in Thailand. This research also led to Burma where he been able to access historical records on the subject systems Siamese war. Using this information and detailed research done in Thailand Arjarn Samai was able to document and confirm 60 Awudt Muay Boran techniques and fighting methods. Only two cases of technical, painted hand on parchment now exist. Arjarn Samai's son, Arjarn Werayut Messamarn recently visited England bringing with him one of these documents unique. It is believed that the Siamese people had their own fighting styles, each in a realm different style. These fighting systems have clearly evolved over several hundred years and were known under different names such as: "Arwut Thai" (meaning Thai Weapons), "Pahuyut" (armed struggle bare hands). Teaching old Muay Thai "Period after a long history of struggle against the Burmese, King Phra Thaksin "The Great" finally pushed all invaders of the kingdoms of Siam and the Chakri Dynasty began. The Chakri dynasty with King Rama I on the throne, marked a time when almost all the separate kingdoms of Siam joined together to become the country we now know as Thailand. In the late 1700s, with wars against invaders over, fighters began to compete locally and often before the king to see who had the best style. Most people recognize this period in history of Muay Thai as fighters used to wrap their hands in cotton thread. Today, people refer to this style of fighting (during this period) as "Muay Kaad Chuak" but at the time, this is not the term people used. "Muay Kaad Chuak" began to decline around the 1920s, which finally in 1929 with a death in ring. Although the government of the time prohibited this style of fighting (with wrapped hands) people still practice the arts and fight underground. Finally, by introducing rules and provide better protection of combatants, competition became safer and the sport of Muay Thai was born. Some information techniques used: Technique 6 (Buddhai Swan) - The boxer grabs the opponent's neck twisting him from right to left, then throwing a knee to the body the enemy, finally the boxer will push the opponent out finishing with a high kick to the neck of the opponent. To clarify, the name given to the technique usually refers to an action within that technique, not necessarily the whole technique or even the final result but, for example action strength (Hak), neck (KOR) in Hak Kor Erawan or action of presenting or offering something Hanuman Tawai Wen. Of the 60 major technical in Cygnus Buddhai syllabus there are other minor techniques as many variations and additional moves that can follow on the main techniques. A good example of this is the technique "GAA Jik KAI" translated Crow pecks the egg which is essentially rapid blows to the opponent's face, but his jab could choose any technique eg round kick (Daet), Front kick (TEEP), right uppercut (Uppercut Kwaa) or more.
Addition techniques Swan Buddhai we found at least another 60 different techniques from various sources, including Arjarn Yodthong camp Sityodthong, Arjarn Panya Kraitus author the book "Muay Thai Art of Fighting very distinguished," fire chief Khun Bunyuen Suvanatdha elders of the Amateur Muay Thai Association of Thailand and Kru Lang Camp Sitpralang in Ayuddhaya.
The discovery of Muay Boran in the West took us on a journey back through time. The modern sport of Muay Thai has been established here for nearly 30 years, now we are moving backwards and we have found the time before sport when contests were fought for honor or freedom. It is just a wink in time before we reach our final destination and find the mother of the martial arts Thailand - Krabi Krabong.
