Before her senior year at Temple, Lauren Adamski hopped a flight to London with a friend. They pictured a carefree summer of throwing back pints and sightseeing, but within minutes of arriving at Heathrow, they were pick-pocketed. Most college students might panic, yet the tough Nazareth grad from Northeast Philadelphia wouldn’t let the crime ruin her “holiday” abroad. Instead, she marched right over to the local employment office. “I spent seven hours in the waiting room,” she remembers proudly. “I made it very clear that I wouldn’t leave until they gave me a job—I was NOT going back to the States, yet!”
This tenacity and down-to-earth optimism have served Adamski well through life. She is entering her fifteenth year as an accountant with Schalleur, Devine & Surgent, where she is also a partner. Adamski started with the Devon-based company right out of college, and admits that choosing SDS was a no-brainer. While doing the interview rounds, she noted that every other firm “was all business, business, business. SDS was the first place that really seemed to value having a life outside the office.”
Life outside the office is especially important for Adamski these days. Her son, Michael, just turned two —and she recently discovered that she’s expecting again. “Right now, there are two of us and one of him,” she shares. “Two kids will definitely be different!”
