Coordinating paint colors allow you to redo every room in your home. It will just take a few buckets of paint and a little elbow grease and you don't even have to be an interior designer. You can use an inspiration piece or create a color palette that drives home a theme. If your room seems basic or boring then mix colors together in unusual ways to create impact in a space.

When you are putting together color paint schemes you'll want to remember the importance of a neutral color. This gives you direction for wood tones and moldings but also breaks up the space. This way your palette won't be overwhelming. When using bold tones like purple or red it can be tempting to stick with other deep, rich colors. If a piece of pottery has a pattern to it you can pull multiple colors from it, just remember to use a neutral tone as well. The inspiration for your room might be a natural element like grass cloth, wood tones or even pebbles for a Zen vibe to the space.

You'll want to consider the underlying tones when picking a multi-color palette. For instant, you might want to stick with purples and lavenders that have a gray hue to them for a more sophisticated color palette. This is a way to ensure that all of your colors work together. Choose a word for your inspiration and stick to it; whether it's rustic, elegant or vibrant.

Use accessories to spice up a plain room. You might want to go with a neutral black, white or taupe sofa if you don't buy furniture very often. These are enduring colors that will work with a lot of different accent colors and themes. For a Moroccan vibe pile on reach jeweled tone pillows in deep garnet, sapphire and eggplant hues. For a modern feminine space pair chocolate brown with a pale pink to balance the masculine and feminine.

When using traditional colors you might want to change up the color palette a little. For instance blue is a common color in boys' rooms. You can make the room contemporary by going with a vibrant turquoise or teal color and spicing up the room with bright orange accents. Pink is traditional for a girl's nursery. Give it an elegant look with black furniture for a contemporary space that still uses a traditional color but in an unconventional manner.

With a little practice you can make any colors coordinate together. You just need to find a piece that will tie your space together or create your own. This may mean that you head out to a paint your own pottery store to bring your color palette together or that you sew inexpensive solid fabrics together to make your unique design cohesive.
